An Introduction ToImage Theater and the Theater Of the Oppressed
An introduction to the use of image theater as a creative and vital approach to group dynamics, power analysis, and the exchange of ideas.Image Theater can be a very powerful tool for communities in struggle, whether the conflict is internal or external. In this class, we'll be introducing both Image Theater as part of the repertory of the Theater of the Oppressed. The first part of the class will be an overview of the Theater of the Oppressed and how it's been used for social justice. The rest (and majority) of the class will be devoted to exploring image theater as a main tool in the repertory of the Theater of the Oppressed. Who: Anyone who'd like to learn new skills and fun, interactive techniques for moving towards a shared-power culture. Folks who have a strong commitment to social justice. Groups who'd like to foster more sustainability in how they work together. This is a great opportunity for improv theater lovers, activists of all sorts, and anyone interested in creative social justice. When: Saturday, November 14th, 3-7pm Where: Downtown Portland (exact location TBA with RSVP) Cost: Offered on a gift economy: experience the workshop and offer back whatever truly makes your heart smile.
