An Introduction To

Using Interactive Theater For Social Change

Theater of the Oppressed can be a powerful technique for affecting radical social change and helping to bring about social justice for historically oppressed and disadvantaged populations. In this class, we'll be introducing and techniques and methods designed to create real change, both in working groups and in the world at large. Depending on the group's needs, we'll explore working with issues of power, consensus, race, class, culture, gender, immigration, religion and/or sexual orientation.

Who: Anyone who'd like to learn new skills and fun, interactive techniques for moving towards a shared-power culture. Folks who have a strong commitment to social justice. Groups who'd like to foster more sustainability in how they work together. Folks, in general, who'd like to create social justice, peace and empowerment of people who have historically been oppressed and disempowered, and affected by prejudice and discrimination--people whose voices have too often been silenced.
